Abstract

This study investigates the impact of terrorism on food production in North-East Nigeria, with a specific focus on Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State. The research examines how persistent terrorist activities, mainly by Boko Haram since 2009, have disrupted farming, reduced agricultural output, and affected food availability in the region. The study aims to understand the changes in food production before and during terrorist attacks, identify the specific ways terrorism has hindered agricultural activities, and propose measures to curb the problem. A qualitative research design was adopted, relying solely on secondary data sourced from books, journals, institutional reports, and credible online publications. Data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify major patterns and trends. Findings reveal that terrorism in Gwoza LGA has led to large-scale displacement of farmers, destruction of farmland and equipment, restricted access to markets, and a breakdown of agricultural support systems, resulting in severe food shortages and rising prices. The study concludes that tackling terrorism, rebuilding rural livelihoods, and restoring agricultural infrastructure are essential for improving food production in the area. It recommends enhanced security measures, resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced farmers, revitalisation of agricultural support systems, and the restoration of market and transport infrastructure to ensure long-term food security in North-East Nigeria
