Abstract

ABSTRACT HCV infection is a significant public health concern, particularly among individuals living with HIV/AIDS, as co-infection can lead to accelerated liver disease progression and increase morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of HCV infection among HIV/AIDS patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted using HCV strip test; the samples were collected by venipuncture and serological test was done to detect the presence of HCV antibodies in the samples of 58 HIV/AIDS patients. The result shows that 6 (10.3%) of 58 HIV/AIDS patients tested positive for HCV infection, with a significant association found between HCV infection and certain risk factors such as multiple sexual partners (p-value = 0.042). Based on the findings, it is recommended that HCV screening be integrated into the routine care of HIV/AIDS patients, particularly those with high-risk behaviors, to enable early detection and treatment of HCV infection, reducing the risk of liver disease progression and improving overall patient outcomes.
