PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS AS A DETERMINANT OF COMPETITIVE SPORTS PARTICIPATION AMONG STUDENTS OF PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN ODEDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OGUN STATE
Abstract
This study examined psychological factors as determinant of competitive sports participation among students of public tertiary institutions in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. The study ascertained the level of competitive sports participation and examined how certain psychological variables could be enhanced to promote competitive sports participation among students of public tertiary institutions in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. The study used a descriptive survey research design. For the purpose of this study, one research question and five hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Total enumeration was used to select all public tertiary institutions in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. Stratified Sampling, Proportionate sampling and simple random sampling techniques were used to select one thousand (1000) respondents in line with the population of each institution. Frequency count, simple percentage were used for socio- demographic information and weighted mean for research question while chi-square was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study showed that motivation, interest.
