DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN IOT-BASED ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
This project addresses the critical challenges of frequent power outages and
inefficient energy consumption by developing an IoT-based energy management
system that integrates real-time monitoring with automated control. The system
utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller with ACS713 current sensors and ZMPT101B
voltage sensors to accurately measure power parameters, while an Arduino Nano
implements an automatic transfer switch for seamless power source transition during
outages. A mobile application enables remote monitoring and control via Bluetooth,
providing users with real-time consumption data and appliance management
capabilities. Testing demonstrated successful measurement of current (0-30A range),
voltage (90-250V), and power consumption with ±1% accuracy, along with reliable
automatic switching between power sources within 2 seconds of outage detection.
The implemented solution offers households and small businesses an effective tool
for optimizing energy usage, reducing costs by up to 20%, and ensuring
uninterrupted power supply. This work presents a practical, scalable approach to
smart energy management that contributes to both economic savings and
environmental sustainability in developing regions.
