Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of grapefruit oil essential oil ata potential insecticide against D. maculatio, a common pest infesting various product mahan stored grains dried fish animal hides, and museum specimens using fumigant toxicity and contact toxicity procedures Synthetic DDVP and untreated control (Acetone) were used as positive and negative treatments respectively. All experiments were laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replicates and data was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA). Statistical analysis was done using Kruskal-wallis The application of fresh paradisi peel EO at different concentrations (0.13.0.25,0.38, 0.50, and 0.63µl/30cm²) fumigant toxicity test induced mortality ranging from (3.67-433,9.67. 9.67.9.67- 10.00, 5.00-6.00, and 5.00-7.00)% respectively. The positive control (DDVP) maintained consistent and significantly highest mortality than botanical essential oils across experimental durations at 6hours to 72hours after treatment. Contact toxicity observed with EO doses(0.16, 0.33, 0.50, and 0.66) µl/32cm³ exerted mortality ranging from 0.00-1.33%, 0.33-1.33%, 0.67- 2.33% and 0.67-2.00% respectively at 1-72hours after treatment.
