Abstract

In this study, water from Udim Oti-Enwe was analyzed for physico-chemical and biological properties including some traces of metal present in the water. The water quality parameters examined include pH, salinity, alkalinity, total hardness, total dissolved solid (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), Iron (Fe), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD) etc. All the water samples were taken at room temperature. The results were compared to the World Health Organization (WHO) standard for drinking water. The analysis showed that the water was not in any way contaminated and the water can be used for irrigation, industrial and domestic purposes. Stream flow was measured which gave the average velocity of the flow as 0.04257ms-1. The flow channel was observed to be laminar flow and in subcritical region since Re < 2000 and Fr < 1. Other stream properties such as discharge (Q), shear velocity (Ux), slope (S), hydraulic radius (R), Reynold’s number (Re) and Froude number (Fr) etc was also determined. The channel cross section is assumed to be trapezoidal at upstream and rectangular at downstream.
