THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE CASE STUDY OF POSTAL SERVICE (NIPOST), IBADAN
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of employee discipline on organizational performance within the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) in Abuja. Given the significant operational challenges faced by NIPOST, including inefficiencies in service delivery and declining revenue, this research aims to assess how disciplinary practices influence key performance indicators such as service delivery, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data were collected from a sample of 150 employees representing various levels within the organization. A structured questionnaire, comprising demographic questions and Likert-scale items, was employed to gather comprehensive insights into employee perceptions regarding disciplinary measures and their impacts on performance. The findings reveal that while NIPOST has established disciplinary procedures, inconsistencies and a lack of transparency hinder their effectiveness. The regression analysis results reveal a positive correlation between employee discipline and key performance indicators such as customer service delivery, operational efficiency, and overall organizational performance. This indicates that employee discipline is a significant predictor of organizational performance at NIPOST, Abuja. The positive coefficient suggests that enhancing employee discipline is likely to lead to measurable improvements in organizational outcomes. The study concludes that that there is a significant relationship between employee discipline and organizational performance at NIPOST, Abuja. Recommendations include ensuring fair application of disciplinary measures, conducting regular reviews of policies, enhancing communication regarding disciplinary procedures, and linking discipline to performance evaluation systems. By implementing these strategies, NIPOST can foster a culture of accountability and efficiency, ultimately enhancing its service delivery and organizational performance. This study contributes to the understanding of how effective employee discipline can lead to improved outcomes in public sector institutions
