DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ENERGY EFFICIENT AIR- CONDITIONING SYSTEM FOR A UNIVERSITY LECTURE THEATER
Abstract
This study presents the design and analysis of an air-conditioning system tailored for a university
lecture theater. It encompasses a comprehensive assessment of cooling load requirements,
system selection, equipment sizing, and energy efficiency measures. The analysis of cooling
loads was carryout using Cooling Load Temperature Difference/Solar Cooling Load/Cooling
Load Factor (CLTD/SCL/CLF) method implemented in Excel Microsoft program using standard
design consideration and stipulated guidelines by the American Society of Heating, Cooling and
Air conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). From the analysis carryout the total cooling load is
360kW, the maximum load of the building was found at 13.00 hours. The cooling load was
analyzed to select suitable air conditioning system for the building using Cooling Load
Temperature Difference/Solar Cooling Load/Cooling Load Factor (CLTD/SCL/CLF) method
implemented in Excel Microsoft program using standard design consideration and stipulated
guidelines by the American Society of Heating, Cooling and Air conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE). The analysis carried out shows that a total of 5 packaged rooftop air conditioners of
87.9kW (300,000Btu/h) capacity each would be required to handle the building’s cooling load of
360kW, and would require 1359251.072kWh of energy per day capacity each.
