EFFECT OF SALARIES AND WAGES ADMINISTRATION ON EMPLOYEE’S ATTITUDE TO WORK IN AN ORGANIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF FIRST BANK PLC KABBA BRANCH, KABBA BUNU LGA KOGI STATE)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Salaries and wages administration play a crucial role in shaping employees' attitudes, performance, and overall organizational productivity. This study examines the effect of salaries and wages administration on employees’ attitudes to work in First Bank PLC, Kabba Branch, Kabba Bunu LGA, Kogi State. The study seeks to determine the relationship between effective wage administration and employee motivation, assess the constraints to adequate wage payment, and evaluate how structured salary administration impacts workplace performance. The research employs a descriptive survey design, with 50 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire, and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential techniques, including Chi-square and regression analysis. The study's hypotheses tested the significance of the relationship between wage administration and employee attitudes and whether differences exist in respondents’ opinions on wage constraints. Findings indicate a positive relationship between effective salary administration and employees' attitudes toward work. The study also reveals that constraints such as economic instability, organizational policies, and financial limitations hinder adequate wage payment. Furthermore, empirical analysis supports the notion that structured salary systems and performance-based pay lead to improved employee commitment and reduced absenteeism. Based on the findings, the study concludes that fair and timely remuneration enhances job satisfaction, motivation, and productivity. It recommends that First Bank PLC and similar organizations implement a transparent salary structure, conduct periodic salary reviews, and adopt performance-based incentives to boost employee morale. Additionally, regulatory bodies should ensure that wage policies align with economic realities to foster a positive work environment. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on human resource management and compensation strategies, offering valuable insights for policymakers, business owners, and HR professionals on effective salary administration.
