Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was aimed at assessing compressive strength and other strength properties of commercially produced Sandcrete blocks in Akwa Ibom State. This research work covered the northern and southern zone of the state, analyzing 7 block industries from each zone, through questionnaire and purchase of commercial blocks sample. The blocks were subjected to compressive strength test and density test in the Civil Laboratory of Department of Civil Engineering Ikot Akpaden. The Compressive strength results was found to be between 0.25N/mm2 and 1.1N/mm2 resulting to be far below standard value of 2.5N/mm2 -3.5N/mm2 specified by (NIS 87,2000). Sandcrete blocks produced in Akwa Ibom do not meet standard strength. It was recommended that Seminar should be organized to help enlighten the manufacturers and the general public on importance of adhering to standard
