Abstract

This study investigates the effect of emotional intelligence on the academic achievement of senior secondary school students in Chemistry in Odeda Local Government Area. A descriptive survey design was used to determine how components of emotional intelligence—such as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills—relate to students’ performance in Chemistry. Findings revealed that students with higher emotional intelligence demonstrated better understanding, motivation, and achievement in the subject. The study concludes that emotional intelligence plays a significant role in enhancing Chemistry learning and recommends integrating emotional skill development into classroom practices.
