CHALLENGES OF INEFFECTIVE TEACHING OF CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES (CRS) IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OLAMABORO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KOGI STATE- NIGERIA
Abstract
The challenges of ineffective teaching of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in secondary schools pose a significant threat to students' spiritual growth, academic performance, and personal development. Ineffective instruction fails to contextualize biblical teachings, neglecting to connect them to contemporary issues, resulting in a lack of relevance and resonance with students' lives. This superficial approach stifles critical thinking and reflection, hindering students from developing a deeper understanding of complex moral and ethical dilemmas. Furthermore, inadequate teacher’s training and insufficient resources compromise instructional quality, leading to a lack of engagement and motivation among students. The failure to cater to diverse learning needs and styles excludes students who require alternative approaches, while a lack of emotional and spiritual support neglects students' well-being. Ultimately, ineffective teaching of Christian Religious Studies (CRS)diminishes students' interest and enrollment in the subject, inadequately prepares them for an increasingly complex and pluralistic world, and misses’ opportunities for character development, moral guidance, and spiritual formation, ultimately negatively impacting their mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.
