INFLUENCE OF SELF-LEADERSHIP ON STRATEGIC CHANGE AMONG AUTOMOBILE DEALERS IN LAGOS MAINLAND
Abstract
ABSTRACT
In today's fast-changing business world, self-leadership plays an important role in helping
small business owners manage strategic change, especially in the informal sector. This study
looks at how self-leadership affects strategic change among automobile dealers in Lagos
Mainland. Nigeria. It focuses on three main parts of self-leadership: behavior-focused
strategies, natural reward strategies, and constructive thought pattern strategies. The study
used a descriptive survey method, collecting data from 200 respondents through structured
questionnaires. The results showed a clear and positive relationship between self-leadership
and strategic change. Specifically, behavior-focused strategies had a strong link with
strategic change (r = 0.624), natural reward strategies had a moderate link (r = 0.538), and
constructive thought patterns also showed a strong link (r = 0.612). These findings suggest
that when dealers manage themselves well, stay motivated, and think positively, they are
better able to adapt to changes in the market. The study concludes that self-leadership is a
key skill for business growth and recommends that Automobile dealer associations should
organize regular capacity-building workshops focused on mental preparedness, change
management, and innovation.
