EFFECT OF ETHANOLIC LEAF EXTRACT OF CRASSULASCEAE AND BISOPROLOL ON SOME HEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS LIKE RED BLOOD CELL, HEMATOCRIT MEAN CORPUSCULAR VOLUME AND PLATELET DIFFERENTIALS IN LEAD ACETATE INDUCED CARDIAC TOXICITY
Abstract
This study examine the Effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Crassulaceae and bisoprolol on some
hematological parameters like red blood cell, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, platelet
differentials in lead acetate induced cardiac toxicity.. Thirty five (35) wistar rats weighing between
150-250g were used for this study and assigned into 5 groups containing seven (7) rats in each
group. All the groups had access to feed and water. . Group 1 (normal control) were given clean
water. Group 2 (lead acetate) received 250mg/kg body weight of lead acetate orally. Group 3
(Crassulaceae only) received 600mg/kg of Crassulaceae extract. Group 4 (Lead acetate and
Crassulaceae) received 250mg/kg of lead acetate and 600mg/kg of Crassulaceae extract. Group 5
(Lead acetate and Bisoprolol) received 250mg/kg of lead acetate and 5mg/kg of Bisoprolol extract.
The extract was administered orally twice daily for a period of 28days. At the end of the
experiment, the animals were sacrificed and blood was collected with sterile syringe and needle
via cardiac puncture into plain sample bottles and centrifuged. Serum was collected for laboratory
analysis of full blood count taking specifically red blood count, hematocrit, mean corpuscular
volume, platelet and mean platelet volume. . The result obtained in this research shows that Red
Blood Cell showed a higher level (p
