Abstract

The present study investigates the antipyretic effect of the hydro-methanolic extract of Dioscorea bulbifera in male Wistar rats. This study will provide valuable insights into the potential use of air potato (Dioscorea bulbifera). A total of 25 male wister rats was induced with pyrexia using brewer’s yeast, a standard and reliable method for evaluating antipyretic activity. The hydro-methanolic extract of Dioscorea bulbifera was administered at varying dose 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg, 800mg/kg, and its effect on body temperature was compared with that of a standard antipyretic drug, paracetamol. This study highlights the potential of Dioscorea bulbifera as a natural alternative for managing fever, showing it has prolong action with increase in does warranting further investigation into its mechanism of action and therapeutic applications. The findings contribute to the growing evidence supporting the use of plant-based remedies in traditional and modern medicine.
