HYDROMETRY AND FLOW MEASUREMENTS OF UDIM OTI-ENWE IN UTINE, NDUONG OKOBO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF AKWA IBOM STATE
Abstract
This study examined the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of Udim Oti-Enwe water, as well as some metal traces that may have been present. pH, salinity, alkalinity, total hardness, total dissolved solid (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), iron (Fe), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and other water quality indicators are among those that are analyzed. Room temperature was used to collect each and every water sample. The
outcomes were contrasted with the drinking water standard set by the World Health Organization
(WHO). According to the analysis, the water is safe to use for home, industrial, and irrigation uses and was not contaminated in any manner. After measuring the stream's flow, the average velocity
was found to be 0.04414m/s. The water sample gives the following result for electrical conductivity: upstream (158 us/m), downstream (183 us/cm) and tributaries (215 us/cm). Total dissolved solid (TDS) is the measure of the dissolved combined content of all inorganic and organic substances present in a liquid in molecular, ionized or micro-granular suspended form. It was noted that the flow channel had laminar flow and, in a sub, critical region. The cross-sectional river is assumed to be trapezoidal and rectangular at the upstream and downstream.
