Abstract
This study evaluates the role of financial control and accountability in enhancing organizational effectiveness, with a specific focus on Nigerian Breweries Plc, Abia State. Financial control mechanisms such as budgeting, auditing, reporting, and compliance are critical tools for ensuring transparency, safeguarding assets, and promoting efficient utilization of resources. Accountability, on the other hand, ensures that managers and employees are held responsible for the outcomes of their decisions and actions. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. The population consisted of staff of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Aba plant, from which a representative sample was selected using purposive sampling. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews, while secondary data were sourced from annual reports, journals, and textbooks. Data were analyzed using simple percentages and chi-square statistical techniques. Findings revealed that effective financial control mechanisms positively influence accountability in Nigerian Breweries Plc. Budgetary control was shown to play a significant role in guiding expenditure and resource allocation, while internal and external audits enhanced transparency and compliance with regulatory standards. The study further discovered that accountability fosters investor confidence, minimizes agency problems, and improves overall organizational performance. The study concludes that financial control and accountability are indispensable in modern business organizations, particularly in the Nigerian manufacturing sector. It recommends that Nigerian Breweries Plc should continuously strengthen its internal control systems, ensure regular external audits, enhance compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and maintain open channels of accountability to all stakeholders.
