ASSESSMENT OF UAV AND GNSS IN ROUTE SURVEY TOWARDS VERTICAL ALIGNMENT DESIGN FROM OLORUNDA JUNCTION THROUGH BALOGUN VILLAGE TO OLORUNDA VILLAGE OYO, OYO STATE, NIGERIA.
Abstract
This study evaluates the suitability of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for route surveying, focusing on alignment design along a 5km corridor balogun village via Ibrahim Chatta village to Olorunda village. The technologies assessed GNSS (Unistrong G97Pro) and UAV (DJI Matrice 350 RTK) were used to acquire spatial data for precise determination of X, Y, Z coordinates and longitudinal profiles. The project followed a systematic approach, beginning with reconnaissance and planning, including marking chainages and establishing control points. GNSS observations were conducted for coordinate capture and vertical profiling, while UAV flights provided comprehensive aerial data. Data were processed using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Pix4DMapper, Agisoft, Microsoft Excel, and Word. The result was the production of detailed route maps and longitudinal alignment plans. The comparative analysis highlights the accuracy, efficiency, and practicality of both technologies, offering valuable insight into integrating UAV and GNSS in modern geospatial route survey workflows.
