DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A 3.5KVA ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATING SET
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the design and construction of a 3.5 KVA electrical power generating set intended to serve as an alternative source of electricity for domestic and small-scale commercial applications. The study was carried out to address the challenge of unstable electricity supply by developing a compact and reliable generator capable of producing electrical power for basic household appliances and small electrical equipment. The design process involved the selection of suitable mechanical and electrical components such as the petrol engine, alternator, voltage regulator, fuel system, and supporting frame. These components were carefully integrated to ensure efficient conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
The constructed generating set was subjected to various testing procedures in order to evaluate its operational performance. Output voltage measurements and load tests were carried out to determine the ability of the generator to supply electrical power under different operating conditions. The results obtained from the testing indicated that the generator was capable of producing an output voltage of approximately 220 V and supplying electrical loads within its rated capacity of 3.5 KVA. The generator demonstrated stable operation and satisfactory performance when used to power household electrical appliances such as lighting systems and small electrical devices. The study therefore concludes that the designed and constructed generating set is capable of providing a reliable alternative source of electricity for small-scale applications. The project also demonstrates the practical application of electrical and electronic engineering principles in the development of power generation systems. It is recommended that further improvements can be made to enhance the efficiency, durability, and environmental performance of small power generating systems in future developments.
