Abstract

Abstract This research was carried out to determine the antifungal activity of moringa oleifera on fungi isolated from fermented cow milk. Moringa oleifera were collected from different areas within Talata Mafara. It was washed clearly and dried it at room temperature in 10days then grinded using sterile mortar and pestle. Three samples of fermented cow milk were bought from Mini market (sample A), Arkilla Market (sample B), and Bakin Kasuwa sample C) in Talata Mafara using sterile container for each samples and taken to microbiology lab for analysis. The samples were culture and identified with (PDA) media Sample A isolated Aspergillus Niger, sample B candida albicans, and sample C Rhizopus stolonifer and sacchromyces cerevisiae. The antifungal activity was done using mueller hinton method on both methanol and aqueous extract, methanol extract is more effective than the aqueous extract. In minimum zone of inhibitory concentration (mg/ml) methanol have the higher concentration against aspergillus niger with 500mg/ml and sacchromyces cerevisiae 250mg/ml and even in aqueous solution Aspergillus Niger with 125mg/ml and 125mg/ml for sacchromyces cerevisiae. And phytochemical of alkaloids, steroids, saponnins, flavonoids, are all present except tannins. It may be concluded that antifungal activity was in both methanol extract and aqueous extract. Therefore public should take note of the vendors hygiene of environment to avoid contamination through handling.
