Abstract

This study evaluated the therapeutic potential of Garcinia kola (bitter kola) aqueous extract against RAID insecticide-induced hepatotoxicity in male wistar rats. RAID, a widely used household insecticide, contains pyrethroids and organophosphates that are known to generate oxidative stress and disrupt hepatic function. This study utilized fifteen male adult rats with an average weight of 252g divided into three groups (n=5). Group one (normal control) received normal saline, Group two (positive control) were exposed to RAID insecticide only, and Group three were exposed to RAID insecticide followed by Garcinia kola extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight for 14 days. Biochemical analyses were conducted to assess the serum activities of Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), and Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) using spectrophotometer. The results showed a significant increase (p
