Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in modern business, using First Bank, Talata Mafara as a case study. The primary objective was to assess how ICT tools such as computers, internet services, automated teller machines (ATMs), mobile banking, and online platforms have improved the bank’s operations and service delivery. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews administered to both staff and customers of the bank. The findings revealed that ICT has significantly enhanced the efficiency, accuracy, and speed of banking operations, reduced paperwork, improved customer satisfaction, and facilitated effective communication within and outside the organization. However, challenges such as high maintenance costs, cyber insecurity, and inadequate technical skills among some staff were also identified. The study concludes that ICT plays a vital role in promoting business growth, competitiveness, and innovation in the banking sector. It therefore recommends continuous investment in ICT infrastructure, regular staff training, and stronger cybersecurity measures to maximize the benefits of technology in modern business operations.
