Abstract

This study examines the proposal for establishing a Local Farmers Market in Talata Mafara with the aim of improving agricultural marketing, promoting food security, and enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of farmers and residents within the community. The research investigates the existing challenges faced by local farmers, including poor access to organized markets, exploitative middlemen, limited storage facilities, and unstable pricing mechanisms. It further evaluates how the creation of a well-structured farmers’ market can provide a direct link between producers and consumers, reduce post-harvest losses, encourage fair trade, and stimulate local economic development. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected through interviews, observations, and review of secondary materials to assess current market conditions and community needs. Findings reveal a strong demand for an upgraded market system that supports local producers, improves product quality, and creates income-generating opportunities for rural households. The proposed Local Farmers Market is expected to contribute to employment creation, increase agricultural productivity, and foster community cohesion. The study concludes that establishing a Local Farmers Market in Talata Mafara is both necessary and feasible. It recommends strategic planning, government support, community involvement, and partnership with private stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the project. Overall, the proposed market has the potential to become a vital hub for agricultural trade and a catalyst for economic transformation in Talata Mafara.
