PRODUCTION OF MYCOLOGICAL MEDIA FROM EXTRACT OF MAIZE, CORN, GROUNDNUT HUSKS AND DRIED TOMATOES
Abstract
Mycological medium are used in for the cultivation, isolation, differentiation, identification of yeast and fungi and maintenance of fungi for demonstration of chromo genesis and for obtaining yeast and mould count. Mycological media was formulated from maize cubs, groundnut husks and tomato stork. The formulated media were exposed to air for 5minutes each along with a set of control plates of sabdrous dextrose agar (SDA). This was followed by incubation at room temperature for 48hours. Cultural and microscopic study to the grown cultures revealed various species of fungi such as Neurospora, Aspergillus, Penicillium and Yeast. The results suggest the possible use of the three types of media for laboratories and commercial purposes.
