USING LOCAL MEDIA TO ENHANCE FOOD SECURITY THROUGH INCREASED FOOD PRODUCTION (A CASE STUDY OF TALATA MAFARA COMMUNITY)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the potential of using local media to enhance food security through increased food production in Talata Mafara Community. With agriculture as a cornerstone of livelihoods in this community, the role of local media in disseminating agricultural knowledge and promoting best practices becomes paramount. Through a field survey conducted in 2024, data was collected and analyzed to understand community perceptions regarding the effectiveness of local media in addressing food security challenges. The findings reveal a strong belief among respondents that local media can be effectively leveraged for enhancing food security. A significant majority expressed support for utilizing platforms such as television, radio, and social media to disseminate agricultural information. However, there exists a notable minority skeptical about the influence and capabilities of local media in this regard. Strategies proposed by respondents include increasing the frequency of agricultural programs on local media platforms and improving the quality and relevance of content disseminated. These findings underscore the importance of strategic engagement with local media to bridge knowledge gaps, empower farmers, and ultimately improve food production and security in Talata Mafara Community. The study concludes with recommendations for stakeholders, including local media outlets, community leaders, and agricultural extension services, to collaborate effectively in harnessing the potential of local media for sustainable agricultural development and food security enhancement.
