Abstract

This research investigates the impact of training and development programs on employee performance at Zenith Bank Plc, Lafia Branch, Nigeria, with a focus on assessing the extent to which low productivity and high employee turnover affect staff efficiency, job satisfaction, and overall organizational performance. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaire administered to 101 employees across various departments. The chi-square statistical method was used to test two key hypotheses: (1) whether low productivity significantly affects employee performance and (2) whether high employee turnover has a significant impact on staff performance. Findings reveal a strong correlation between structured training programs and improved employee efficiency, problem-solving capabilities, and job retention. Employees who participated in regular training demonstrated higher productivity, greater adaptability to organizational changes, and stronger commitment to the bank, while inadequate training led to dissatisfaction, skill gaps, and increased turnover rates. The study underscores the critical role of continuous professional development in fostering a skilled, motivated, and committed workforce. Based on the findings, it is recommended that Zenith Bank Plc implement job-specific training initiatives, mentorship programs, and long-term career development plans to enhance workforce stability and job satisfaction. Additionally, integrating digital learning platforms and personalized training modules can further optimize learning outcomes and align employee competencies with industry demands. However, the study is limited by its focus on a single bank branch, which may not fully represent broader industry trends. Future research should expand to multiple branches and incorporate qualitative insights from executives and HR professionals to provide a more comprehensive analysis of training effectiveness. Overall, this study contributes valuable insights into the importance of employee training and development in the banking sector, emphasizing its role in driving productivity, workforce retention, and long-term organizational success.
