Abstract

Abstract This study examined the Prevalence and Risk Factors of Candidiasis among Female Students of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara State. A total of 100 female students across different age groups and academic programs were sampled using structured questionnaires and laboratory tests. The results revealed an overall prevalence of 48%, with the highest occurrence among students aged 26–30 years (50%) and the lowest among those aged 0–18 years (41.66%). Statistically significant risk factors included thrush in the mouth/private part (p = 0.030), recent diagnosis within one month (p = 0.015), and urine color (p = 0.000). Other factors such as residency, academic program, and hygiene practices showed varying prevalence rates but were not statistically significant. The study concludes that candidiasis is a significant public health challenge among female students in the institution. It recommends improved health awareness, early diagnosis, routine screening, and access to affordable treatment as measures to control the infection.
