Abstract

Microorganisms are ubiquitous and play a significant role in every ecosystem, existing either freely or as parasites. Fomites, when in frequent contact with humans or natural habitats of pathogenic organisms, can serve as major vectors for the spread of infectious diseases. This study investigated the bacterial contamination of bank door buttons at Guranttee Trust Bank, Ago-Iwoye branch. Analysis of door samples from GTB revealed the presence of various bacteria, including Bacillus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., and Enterobacter spp.. The findings indicate a high level of bacterial contamination and prevalence on the bank door buttons. These fomites pose a significant risk as potential agents for the dissemination of communicable diseases and could contribute to epidemics if unchecked. Addressing this public health concern requires the involvement of community health superintendents, sanitary officers, environmental protection boards, and private organizations to educate the populace on the importance of personal and environmental hygiene.
