Abstract

1.1 Background to the Study Special effects (SFX) makeup is a crucial component of the entertainment industry, significantly enhancing storytelling in movies, television, and theartre. It enables filmmakers to create realistic visual illusions by transforming actors into supernatural beings, aging characters, or simulating injuries (Nakamura, 2017). This artistic application helps bring stories to life, making them more immersive and engaging for audiences. Nollywood—the Nigerian film industry—has increasingly embraced the use of special effects to improve film quality and audience engagement. The importance of SFX makeup in Nollywood has become more evident in films that require action sequences, horror elements, or mythical storytelling. One such movie is Seven Doors, produced by Femi Adebayo, where SFX makeup played a significant role in depicting supernatural characters and effects (Premium Times Nigeria, 2024). As Nollywood expands its storytelling techniques, SFX makeup is evolving to meet the industry’s growing demand for high-quality visual effects.
