EFFECTS OF MULCHING MATERIALS ON GROWTH AND FOLIAR YIELD OF FLUTED PUMPKIN (TELFARIA OCCIDENTALIS) IN OBIO AKPA, AKWA IBOM STATE.
Abstract
The study was conducted at Akwa Ibom State University Teaching and Research Farm, Obio Akpa Campus to evaluate the growth and yield of fluted pumpkin using four different treatments. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design, replicated three times. The treatments were control, saw dust, polythene bags and grasses. The result indicated significant and non-significant effect in growth and yield of fluted pumpkin to the mulching materials used in the study. However, polythene bags had the highest values for all observed growth and yield attributes followed by grasses then saw dust, and lastly the control (no mulching material) which had the least effect.
