EVALUATION OF SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF DRAINAGE NETWORK OF PART OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADO EKITI, EKITI STATE.
Abstract
This study assesses the spatial distribution and hydraulic performance of the drainage network within a section of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) data integrated with AutoCAD-based longitudinal profile analysis. High-precision RTK-GNSS survey data were processed to generate drainage maps and depth profiles for slope and flow evaluation. Results showed a total drainage length of 2.825 m covering 2.653 Hect, giving a drainage density of 1.06 km/km². The network exhibits a rectilinear layout with southeastward flow consistent with site topography. About 65–70% of the system displayed adequate gradients, while the remainder showed irregular slopes, siltation, and minor structural deterioration. The integrated spatial and vertical analysis effectively identified zones of poor flow and maintenance needs. The study demonstrates the efficiency of DGPS-based geospatial techniques for drainage assessment and provides a reliable dataset for future design improvement and stormwater management planning. The drainage distribution plan was produced at a horizontal map scale of 1:2500, while the longitudinal drainage depth profile was also generated on a horizontal plotting scale of 1:2500 to clearly represent elevation variations and channel gradients. Data processing and graphical production were carried out using AutoCAD 2007 and the SW_DTM module to generate both the plan and the depth profile.
