Abstract

The study addresses the rehabilitation and performance evaluation of a pulverizing and crushing machine used within the Mechanical Engineering Department of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. Pulverizing and crushing machines are vital in industries that require efficient material processing, such as mining, construction, and agriculture. However, prolonged use results in wear, inefficiencies, and increased operational costs. Rehabilitation—restoring the machine to its optimal functionality—is essential for maintaining operational efficiency and reducing maintenance expenses. The study aims to assess the machine's current state, implement necessary rehabilitative actions, and evaluate its performance post-rehabilitation. Rehabilitation processes included replacing damaged components, upgrading specific materials for durability, and aligning mechanical parts to reduce vibration and friction. Following rehabilitation, the machine's throughput increased by 25%, reducing power consumption by 15%, and enhancing output quality through improved particle size distribution. The integration of safety enhancements ensured a safer operational environment, particularly beneficial in an educational setting where students engage with the machine. This project not only restored the machine’s functionality but also provided a valuable hands-on learning experience for students, bridging the gap between theoretical engineering concepts and practical application. The study underscores the importance of structured rehabilitation methodologies in technical education and industrial applications, contributing to sustainable machine use and improved educational resources
