SECOND ORDER CONTROL ESTABLISHMENT FROM BALOGUN VILLAGE VIA IBRAHIM CHIATTA TO OLORUNDA VILLAGE, OYO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT OYO, OYO STATE.
Abstract
The project titled “Second Order Control Establishment from Balogun Village via Ibrahim Chiata to Olorunda Village, Oyo West Local Government, Oyo, Oyo State” focuses on the establishment of a precise and reliable second-order geodetic control network to support surveying, mapping, and engineering activities within the study area. Field observations were carried out using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Total Station traversing, in compliance with the standards set by the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF). Control points were strategically positioned along the route connecting Balogun Village, Ibrahim Chiata, and Olorunda Village, ensuring intervisibility, accessibility, and stability. Data adjustment using the least squares method confirmed that all observed values met the requirements for second-order control. The final coordinates were computed and presented in the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system (Zone 31N, Minna Datum) at a scale of 1:20,000, providing a reliable geodetic framework for future developmental projects.
It is recommended that all established control points be properly maintained, protected, and regularly inspected to ensure their long-term reliability. The network should be integrated into the national geodetic framework, and all control data should be stored digitally for easy retrieval and future reference. Furthermore, surveyors, engineers, and local planning authorities are encouraged to utilize this network as a reference for accurate and consistent spatial and infrastructural development within Oyo West Local Government Area.
