THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING WITH CLOSE RANGE PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND DIGITAL SURVEY METHOD FOR NEW ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING
Abstract
Accurate three-dimensional (3D) modeling of new administration building is critical for numerous engineering and surveying applications. This study explores the integration of close-range photogrammetry using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and digital surveying with a total station to produce a precise 3D model of new administration building at the Federal School of Surveying. The primary aim is to develop a reliable and efficient methodology for high-rise structure modeling by evaluating the accuracy, efficiency, and applicability of UAV-based photogrammetry and digital surveying techniques. Specific objectives include generating a 3D model, assessing its accuracy, and analyzing the strengths and limitations of both data acquisition methods. The methodology involved UAV flight planning and automated image capture using a DJI Enterprise drone. The images were processed in Agisoft Metashape for georeferencing and 3D reconstruction. digital survey data were acquired using a total station to provide control points for enhanced accuracy. four (4) Ground Control Points (GCPs) were strategically placed on the structure to validate the model. Accuracy was evaluated using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) to assess the discrepancies between measured and modeled coordinates. Results show that UAV photogrammetry allows for rapid data acquisition and high-resolution imagery, while digital survey methods offer high precision in coordinate determination. RMSE(E =0.00292m, N =0.110041m, H = 0.13229m) analysis revealed variations in accuracy between both approaches, highlighting the benefits of integrating the two for improved 3D modeling precision. In conclusion, the integration of UAV photogrammetry and digital surveying enhances the accuracy and efficiency of high-rise structure modeling. The study recommends future research into the use of LiDAR technology and AI-driven processing techniques to further improve 3D model generation and accuracy validation.
