DEFORMATION MONITORING OF NEW AUDITORIUM FEDERAL SCHOOL OF SURVEYING OYO, OYO STATE NIGERIA
Abstract
Deformation monitoring is a critical aspect of engineering surveying that involves the precise detection, measurement, and analysis of structural movements over time. This study focuses on the deformation monitoring of the newly constructed auditorium at the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, with the objective of assessing the structural stability and identifying any possible displacements or deformations that may occur due to environmental or constructional factors. To achieve this, a network of control points was established around and within the vicinity of the auditorium. Observations were carried out using high-precision instruments such as total stations and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers over multiple observation epochs. The collected data were processed, adjusted, and analyzed using least squares adjustment techniques to determine coordinate variations and displacement magnitudes between observation periods. The computed results were used to generate displacement vectors, enabling the visualization and interpretation of the movement trends of the monitored structure. The analysis revealed that all observed movements were minimal and within the acceptable tolerance limits, indicating that the auditorium is structurally stable. This study demonstrates the importance of deformation monitoring as a preventive measure for ensuring the safety and longevity of engineering structures.
