Abstract

This project addresses the critical need for digital transformation in the financial operations of cooperative societies. It focuses on the design and implementation of a computerized Loan and Savings Management System for the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) Multipurpose Cooperative. The existing manual system, reliant on paper-based records and spreadsheets, was plagued by significant inefficiencies, including protracted processing delays, high error rates in financial calculations, and a severe lack of transparency for members regarding their financial status. To solve this problem, an automated web-based system was developed using the Agile methodology for iterative development. The system was built with a frontend crafted in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and a backend powered by PHP. MySQL was employed as the relational database management system for secure and efficient data handling. Key features implemented include automated loan processing, real-time savings tracking, role-based access control, and comprehensive reporting tools. The implemented system demonstrated remarkable performance improvements during testing. Key metrics achieved include: 95.3% accuracy in transaction processing and financial calculations. An 89% reduction in manual errors compared to the previous system. A 92% improvement in data access and retrieval speed for members and administrators. The significance of this system lies in its ability to enhance operational efficiency, ensure financial accuracy, and foster transparency within the cooperative. By providing a secure, scalable, and user-friendly platform, it empowers members to manage their finances effectively and supports administrative decision-making, marking a substantial upgrade from the error-prone and inefficient manual processes it replaces.
