Abstract

ABSTRACT Manual attendance tracking systems often suffer from significant inefficiencies, including fake attendance, lack of location verification, and time-consuming administrative work. This project addresses these challenges by developing a robust, web-based smart attendance tracking system that integrates three layers of authentication: geolocation, face recognition, and QR code verification. The system aims to enhance the accuracy, security, and efficiency of attendance management for educational institutions, businesses, and event organizers. The methodology for this project followed the agile software development model, which involved phases such as requirement gathering, planning, development, testing, and deployment. The system’s architecture is structured into three layers: the presentation layer, the business logic layer, and the data layer. It employs the Haversine formula to verify a user's physical presence within a designated area and the Haar Cascade algorithm for secure facial recognition. The implementation and testing of the system demonstrated its effectiveness, with an overall success rate of 94% across 50 simulated attempts. This multi-factor authentication approach successfully minimizes fraudulent attendance and provides a reliable, user-friendly platform. The project concludes that the system is a secure and efficient solution for modern attendance management, offering a significant improvement over traditional methods. While acknowledging limitations like internet dependency and hardware restrictions, the system has the potential for further enhancements, such as a mobile application.
