Abstract

ABSTRACT The toxicological effects of bisphenol A (BPA) on rat liver function and haematological markers were examined in this study. Widely found in plastics, BPA is an endocrine disruptor that has been connected to a number of health problems. The effects of BPA on oxidative stress, liver damage, and changes in blood parameters were investigated. Through oral intubation, experimental rats were split up into separate groups and given varying amounts of bisphenol A (normal control, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg b.w.) for one month. After one month, the rats were sacrificed and blood was collected through cardiac puncture. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured in serum as indicators of liver injury, and was assayed using the method described by Reitman and frankel (1957) as outlined in the randox kits, and whole anticoagulated blood was used to measure haematological parameters such as packed cell volume (PCV), hemoglobin (Hb), and white blood cells (WBC), and was determined by the method of dacie and lewis (1984). In Alt, Alp and Ast we realized that group 4 (80, 105, 98) was more elevated than other groups it is based on a dose dependent reaction( the higher the dose, the higher the effect, In Pcv and Hb, group one (45, 16.60) was more elevated than others indicating healthy red blood cell function, while Wbc showed elevated level in group 2 (8900) showing immediate response to low dose of BPA. Significant liver damage and alterations of some haematological parameters were observed in the assayed parameters. These significant changes suggest inflammatory response, hepatic distortions by bisphenol A. These findings support bisphenol A's potential role as a risk factor for liver diseases and haematological disorders by indicating that exposure to the chemical has negative effects on blood composition and liver health.
