RECYCLING POLYSTERENE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIGHTWEIGHT PLASTER OF PARIS (POP) COATED CEILING SYSTEMS IN SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION
Abstract
The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has driven interest in recycling non-biodegradable wastes such as polystyrene. This study explores the recycling of waste polystyrene for the development of lightweight Plaster of Paris (POP)-coated ceiling systems. By integrating recycled polystyrene beads into ceiling structures, the research aims to reduce environmental pollution while enhancing thermal insulation and weight reduction properties. The POP coating provides durability, surface finish, and fire resistance, making the system suitable for modern building applications. The study highlights the potential of recycled polystyrene as an eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative in ceiling production, contributing to sustainable construction practices and promoting circular economy initiatives.
