Abstract

ABSTRACT Bail is a fundamental right guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution, however, its administration in Nigeria is fraught with problems that culminate in challenges in the judicial and prison systems in Nigeria. This work advocates for the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Cloud computing in Nigeria's bail system to solve the issues of the Nigerian bail system. It highlights the benefits it could bring to the criminal justice system, examines the challenges of bail administration, compares AI and Cld comp's adoption in other jurisdictions, evaluates existing legislation, and explores legal, social, and ethical opportunities and challenges. Using a doctrinal research approach to utilize primary and secondary sources of law, this long essay explores the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria, focusing on the importance of bail as a fundamental human right. It highlights the inefficiency of the bail system, with a high proportion of persons awaiting trial compared to convicted prisoners. The essay discusses the manual and ineffective practices of courts, prisons, and police, as well as the lack of adequate legislation to mandate the use of technology. It also discusses the benefits of Cld comp and the integration of Arti Int. and Cld comp in the Nigerian bail system. This long essay identifies gaps in legal frameworks for the integration of AI and Cld comp in the Nigerian bail system through the examination of national and international legislation. The essay advocates for the integration of AI and Cld comp into the Nigerian bail system, arguing that it promises legal and social opportunities and benefits. This long essay, in addition to advocating for the implementation of Arti Int. and Cld comp, also addresses ethical concerns and challenges by recommending the implementation of a law that would not only mandate the use of Arti Int., Cld comp and other technologies in the administration of bail in Nigeria but also the creation of a platform that would utilise both Arti Int and Cld comp; the Online Bail Administration System (ONBAS). Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Bail, Bail Administration, Cloud Computing, Criminal Justice, Nigerian Bail System. Word count: 328 words
