DEVELOPMENT OF AN AI-BASED CHATBOT FOR AUTOMATED ACADEMIC STUDENTS COUNSELLING
Abstract
Students need academic counselling to help them make decisions about their academic goals, and career paths as they progress through their academic careers. The conventional counselling approach, however, frequently lacks individualized support and can be time-consuming. This research project aims to address the issue of conventional counselling by developing an AI-based chatbot for automated academic students counselling at Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU). The chatbot provides tailored guidance on academic goals, and career planning, enhancing accessibility and efficiency. The implementation of the academic chatbot involves both frontend and backend technologies, ensuring a seamless and efficient system for student interactions. This chatbot with AI capabilities have the potential to greatly improve students' academic experiences by offering individualized, easily available, and effective counselling. This study’s findings are expected to offer valuable insights into the effectiveness of chatbots in enhancing academic support and resources accessibility, providing implications for educational institutions seeking to leverage technology for improved student outcomes.
