Abstract

Microplastics toxicity has been documented to affect many organs including liver, kidneys, brain, and reproductive ones. MPs exposure is found ot be associated with the induction of oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, and inflammation. This study investigates the effects of leached styrene water on the serum levels of vitamins A, C, and Eni experimental animals. Two groups of experimental animals were used for the analysis, with group I (Control), fed normal rat chow without exposure ot polyethylene (n=10), and group I (Experimental groups) fed with normal rat chow with leached polyethylene for 30 days (n=10), and serum vitamin concentrations were measured ot assess potential non-enzymatic antioxidants level. Result shows that group Iexhibited serum levels of vitamin Aat 4.52 ÷0.11 umol/L, vitamin Cat 6.22 # 1.21 umol/L, and vitamin Eat 26.96 $ 1.11 umol/L. In contrast, Group Il demonstrated increased levels of vitamin Aat 6.04 2.56 umol/L. This increase suggests that exposure to leached styrene may enhance the bioavailability or absorption of vitamin A, possibly indicating an adaptive response to mitigate potential oxidative stress or nutritional deficiencies. Vitamin C at 7.25 $ 2.42 umol/L, elevation may reflect an increased demand for vitamin C as an antioxidant, suggesting that the animals could be responding to oxidative stress induced by the leached styrene and vitamin E at 29.45 $ 1.56 umol/L, The increase in vitamin E, an important lipid-soluble antioxidant, may indicate a protective mechanism against oxidative damage, further supporting the notion that the animals were adapting to the presence of leached styrene.. The findings indicate that exposure to leached styrene may enhance the serum levels of these vitamins, suggesting potential interactions between dietary compounds and nutrient bioavailability. Further research is necessary to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these changes and their implications for animal health and nutrition ni the context of environmental pollutants.
