A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY OF THE LANGUAGE OF CRYPTN TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
This study explores the sociolinguistic dimensions of the language used in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. As digital finance continues to reshape global economic landscapes, a unique linguistic system comprising jargon, neologisms, metaphors, and slang has emerged within crypto communities. The research investigates how these linguistic features function within social contexts, influence communication, and reflect identity and ideology among users.Employing a qualitative methodology and discourse analysis, data were collected from online platforms such as Reddit, Twitter, Discord, and cryptocurrency white papers. The findings reveal that crypto language serves both functional and symbolic purposes: it enables precise technical communication while also constructing social identity and reinforcing group membership. However, the complexity and exclusivity of this language often pose challenges to newcomers, hindering financial inclusivity and contributing to misinformation and regulatory ambiguity. This study contributes to sociolinguistics by highlighting the role of language in technological discourse, identity formation, and digital financial inclusion. It recommends the simplification of crypto terminology and increased public education to bridge linguistic gaps and promote broader adoption of blockchain technologies.
