THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CUCURBITA PEPO SEED OIL(CPSO ENRICHMENT IN MITIGATING METHOTREXATE-INDUCED TOXICITY IN SERUM ELECTROLYTES IN FAMALE ALBINO RATS
Abstract
Methotrexate (MTX)is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent that, despite its therapeutic benefits,is associated with significant nephrotoxicity, leading to disturbances in serum electrolyte levels. This study investigates the effectiveness of Cucurbita pepo seed oil(CPSO)in mitigating methotrexate-induced electrolyte imbalances in female albino rats.A total of thirty(30)female Wistar rats were used for this study. The rats were randomly assigned into five(5)experimental groups: group i control, group ii methotrexate-only,group iii MXT+CPSO(10mg),group iv MXT+CPSO(7mg)and group v MXT+CPSO(5mg).Serum electrolyte levels were measured and compared across the different groups.Statistical analysis was performed to determine the significance of the changes in electrolyte levels. Methotrexate administration resulted in a significant(p
