Abstract

This research focused on the isolation and identification of fungi associated with fairly used clothes (okrika) sold at Kashere Market. A total of 48 clothing samples were examined using standard microbiological procedures. Fungi such as Staphylococcus spp., Bacillus spp., and Streptococcus spp. were isolated. Results showed a high contamination rate, especially in visibly dirty and cotton fabrics. Statistical analysis confirmed significant relationships between clothing type, condition, and fungal presence. The study highlights the public health implications of using unwashed second-hand clothes and recommends proper decontamination practices.
