BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE ON CROP YIELD
Abstract
Sustainable agriculture is a holistic approach to farming that integrates environmental health, economic profitability, and social equity to ensure long-term productivity. This study examines the benefits of sustainable agriculture on crop yield, emphasizing its role in enhancing soil fertility, reducing environmental degradation, and promoting food security. The research explores key sustainable farming practices such as crop rotation, organic fertilization, conservation tillage, and integrated pest management, assessing their impact on crop yield compared to conventional agricultural methods. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, utilizing field surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainable agricultural techniques in improving crop productivity. Findings indicate that sustainable practices significantly enhance soil structure, water retention, and nutrient availability, leading to higher and more stable yields over time. Additionally, the use of organic and natural inputs reduces dependency on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, mitigating adverse environmental effects such as soil erosion, water pollution, and biodiversity loss. Furthermore, the study highlights the economic and social advantages of sustainable agriculture, including reduced production costs, improved farmer resilience to climatic change, and enhanced community well-being. Challenges such as limited access to technical knowledge and initial transition costs are also discussed, along with potential solutions and policy recommendations. Overall, the research underscores that sustainable agriculture is a viable pathway to increasing crop yield while preserving ecological balance and ensuring food security for future generations. The findings advocate for the promotion of sustainable farming techniques and supportive policies to promote long-term agricultural productivity.
