Abstract

This study investigates the impact of community participation on the success of development projects in Kaltungo Local Government Area, Gombe State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey research design, data were collected through structured questionnaires from 100 respondents selected via purposive sampling. The research explored the relationship between community involvement and project outcomes, identified barriers to participation, and proposed strategies for improvement. Findings, analyzed through descriptive statistics and chisquare tests, revealed that financial constraints, poor leadership, and low awareness significantly hinder participation (χ² = 160.030, p = 0.000). The study further demonstrated that implementing targeted recommendations, such as awareness campaigns, community support initiatives, and leadership reforms, could significantly enhance participation levels (χ² = 104.387, p = 0.000). The research concludes that community participation is vital for the success and sustainability of development projects and provides practical recommendations for fostering inclusive, community-driven development initiatives in Kaltungo.
