DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A SMART GREENHOUSE SYSTEM FOR OPTIMIZING CROP GROWTH CONDITIONS
Abstract
This project presents the design and development of a smart greenhouse system for optimizing
environmental conditions to enhance crop growth. The system supports a range of sensors,
including soil pH, soil temperature, atmospheric temperature, soil moisture, humidity, and UV
light sensors, all connected to a microcontroller for real-time monitoring and control. The system
utilizes an on-site keypad and dual-display setup: one display is dedicated to inputting crop-
specific parameters for different growth phases, while the other shows real-time system activity.
This setup enables configuration and management of the environmental needs of multiple plant
species with different growth conditions directly from the greenhouse. By automating responses
such as irrigation and lighting based on real-time data from the sensors, efficient use of resources,
improved crop yield, and adaptability to varying plant needs is ensured. This work demonstrates
how embedded systems and artificial intelligence can be combined to support precision
agriculture, particularly in small-scale or research-based greenhouse settings.
