APPLICATION OF TIMBER IN CIVIL ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION (CASE STUDY OF TIMBER BRIDGE)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project was carried out to determine the Application of timber in civil Engineering construction. Timber, a renewable and sustainable material, offers numerous benefits in civil engineering construction. This study investigates the application of timber in bridge construction, focusing on a case study of a timber bridge. The research explores the structural, economic, and environmental advantages of timber bridges, including reduced construction time, lower costs, and minimized environmental impact.
The case study examines the design, construction, and performance of a timber bridges highlighting the use of innovative timber materials and connection systems. The study employs [research methods, e.g., structural analysis, life cycle assessment, and cost-benefit analysis] to evaluate the bridge's structural integrity, durability, and sustainability.
Results show that timber bridges can offer significant benefits, including, Reduced construction time (up to 50%), lower costs (up to 30%)/ minimized environmental impact (up to 70% reduction in carbon footprint) and improved structural performance.
This research demonstrates the viability of timber as a construction material for bridges, contributing to sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
