Abstract

This project focuses on the design and implementation of an automated solar panel cleaning mechanism aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Dust accumulation on solar panels significantly reduces their power output, especially in dusty and tropical environments. The system was developed using a microcontroller-based control unit, a motor-driven mechanical cleaning assembly, and a rechargeable power supply. The prototype was tested under real environmental conditions, and performance was evaluated by measuring the panel’s voltage and current before and after cleaning cycles. Results showed a noticeable improvement in energy output, ranging from 15% to 25% after cleaning. The system is cost-effective, easy to maintain, and suitable for small- and medium-scale solar installations. This project demonstrates the potential of automation in enhancing renewable energy system performance and sustainability.
